Announcements and Important Events
I hope that this letter reaches you in good health and spirits! I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself to the Kutztown Area and Brandywine Heights communities. My name is Larry Chester and I am the new football coach here at Kutztown Area School District.
I am extremely happy and proud to represent this awesome high school again as head football coach and I will do my best to represent you and this school district in a first-class manner as we work towards competitive seasons.
This upcoming season will be my 12th season coaching football for the Kutztown Cougars; I spent 1998-2001 and 2019 as an assistant coach, and 2002-2007 as head coach at the high school. In 2008-2018, I advanced my coaching career to the collegiate ranks and joined the staff of Kutztown University Men’s Rugby as defensive coordinator and strength coach. In 2010-2017, I joined the staff as an assistant coach for Kutztown University Softball as strength and speed coach. The last 11 years provided me with phenomenal opportunities to grow as a coach. Having the opportunity to be mentored and guided by professional and top collegiate coaches was priceless. I was honored to have worked side by side with some of the best coaches in the United States, and in a few cases, the world. Each of these coaches contributed to the coach that I am today. Spending the last 22 years coaching high school and college sports was a blast, but I felt it was time to come home.
I want you to know that my vision for the program is clear and I am 100% committed to establishing a productive, positive, and competitive football program. My number one goal as head coach is to change our culture from the inside out here at Kutztown. We will put into place a structure that encourages success in the classroom, on the field, and in the community. Our core values of integrity, accountability and knowledge will be the corner stones of everything that we do.
I believe that I have assembled an outstanding coaching staff who will be great teachers and role models for our young student-athletes. Our football program begins with our youth level. Our staff will be present in the development and structure of our youth teams. We will give program guidance by helping with plays, technique, and staffing. Every student-athlete who joins football will experience the positive “Cougar Football Way”!
I want you to know that this is our football program. We have a very unique situation with the Brandywine Heights - Kutztown Area co-op. We have two communities of hard working people, two student bodies to recruit the best student-athletes, two administrations for structural support, two faculties for educational guidance, and two groups of parents for an awesome booster club all combining forces for the betterment of one football program. I believe that the following individual groups are stake holders in our program: players, coaches, parents, administration, trainers, faculty, managers, and alumni. You all have a direct and indirect investment in this program, and as head coach, I recognize and support that to the fullest.
To the student-athletes, I want you to know that change is coming. We will work hard to become physically bigger, faster, and stronger than ever. Our offensive, defensive, and specialty systems will be clearly implemented and will enable you opportunities to be competitive and successful.
As a returning head coach, I am completely aware of the history of this football program. Our student-athletes will be a part of a new culture that will make our community proud. We will be active in our communities with charitable work, emphasizing help to our elderly, youth, and supporting those in need. Giving back to those who have given so much to you, is simply the right thing to do!
In closing, I want you to know, I am very excited at this opportunity. This community has been my home for the last 26 years. My plan is to give every student-athlete that goes out for my team unique opportunities that only our football program can provide. Please check out our social media and follow all of the new changes that will be a part of our culture.
My wife, Melanie, and our three daughters, Maya 20, Jasmine 15, and Sydney 10, all completely support me taking on this endeavor. As a family man, this support motivates me to put my all into this opportunity.
Together… We can — We will — We must!
