KASD Concussion Management Policy

This policy has been developed to provide guidance for the prevention, detection, treatment and management of students regarding a concussion.

Request For Examination and Symptoms Report with Permission for Release of Information Form.

Checklist specifying if the student athlete is displaying signs of a concussion or to release the student athlete from the doctors care to resume play.  This form also gives KASD permission to release information to a doctor or school nurse.

Concussion Accommodation Plan Form

Specifies by a medical professional what the student athlete is limited to after being diagnosed with a concussion.

National Athletic Trainers Association Concussion Position Statement

Outlines the definition, background, symptoms, and treatment of a concussion as per the NATA.

Return to Play Protocol

Once a student is diagnosed with a concussion they must follow the return to play protocol. Each step should take 24 hours so that an athlete would take approximately one week to proceed through the full rehabilitation protocol once they are asymptomatic at rest and with provocative exercise. If any post concussion symptoms occur while in the program, the student should drop back to the previous asymptomatic level and try to progress again after a further 24-hour period of rest has passed.
